Cecilia Maramba-Lazarte

Dr. Cecilia Nelia C. Maramba-Lazarte is the current Director of the Institute of Herbal Medicine, National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines. Dr. Maramba is a full professor of Pharmacology who instructs medical, nursing, dental, and graduate students in antimicrobial pharmacology and herbal medicine. She holds cross-appointments as a Clinical Professor in the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Section of the Department of Pediatrics. In addition, she is the president of the Philippine Association of Medical Journal Editors. She was the editor-in-chief of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society of the Philippines from 2002-2016. She is on the editorial board of the Journal of Basic and Applied Pharmacology and the Indonesian Journal of Applied Research. Her research interests include herbal medicine drug development, antimicrobials, infectious diseases, and Bioequivalence Studies.  

She received her medical degree from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. She completed her pediatrics residency and clinical fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at the UPCM-Philippine General Hospital. She earned a Master of Science degree in Infectious Diseases and a Master of Science degree in Clinical Trials from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University College London.
